Answer:

Acquired characteristics are non-inherited characteristics which are learned throughout life time but are not passed on from generation to generations.

Acquired characteristics have no influence over the reproductive organs or genetic material. There re learned throughout the life by experience and subjective interest in a particular thing.

For example: traits like painting, swimming, dancing etc.

Insects and bat wings are analogous — that is, they have separate evolutionary origins, but are superficially similar because they have both experienced natural selection that shaped them to play a key role in flight.

Explanation:

  • Acquired traits refer to the traits which are not inherited but are learned or gained through the lifetime like reading, painting and many others.
  • Since they are learned therefore it is not necessary that they can be passed on to the offsprings as the inheritance depends on the survival and reproductive fitness.
  • The wings of the bats and the birds are not homologous as these structures do not have the same structure but they perform the same function.
  • The structures are not similar as the bats are birds are not descended from the recent common ancestor .
