Step-by-step explanation:

first let us find the cost of both articles for the same quantity.

Score means 20 and dozen is 12.

cost of 60 pencils : 3*16=48

cost of 60 pens. 5*8.4=42

hence ratio of cost of pencil to that of a pen is:

48/42 = 8:7

Given :-

Cost of 1 score of pencils = Rs. 16

Cost of 1 dozen ball pens = Rs. 8.40

To Find :-

The ratio of the price of pencil to that of ball pen.

Analysis :-

First find out the cost of one pencil.

In order to find the cost of one ball pen, divide the cost of 1 dozen ball pens by a dozen (12).

Then make a ratio of price of pencil : price of ball pen and simplify it.

Solution :-

We know that,

1 dozen = 12

Given that,

Cost of 1 score of pencils = Rs. 16

Cost of 1 dozen ball pens = Rs. 8.40

1 score = 20 items

Then,

Cost of one pencil = \sf \dfrac{Cost \ of \ 1 \ score \ of \ pencils}{1 \ score}

Substituting them, we get

\sf \implies \dfrac{16}{20}

\sf =Rs. \: 0.8

Given that, Cost of 1 dozen ball pens = Rs. 8.40

1 dozen = 12 items

Cost of one ball pen = \sf \dfrac{Cost \ of \ 1 \ dozen \ ball \ pens}{12 \ items}

Substituting these, we get

\implies \sf \dfrac{8.40}{12}

\sf = Rs. \: 0.7

Price of pencil : Price of ball pen = 0.8 : 0.7

\implies \sf \dfrac{0.8}{0.7} =\dfrac{8}{7}

Price of pencil : price of ball pen = 8 : 7
