Let the total number of votes be x.

The number votes the defeated candidate got was 47x/100.

The winning candidate got 100-47 = 53% votes.

So the number of votes that the winning candidate got is 53x/100.

The winning candidate got 300 votes more than defeated candidate.

So,

47x/100 + 300 = 53x/100

300 = 53x - 47x /100

300 = 6x/100

30000 = 6x

x = 30000/6

x = 5000

Therefore total number of votes is 5000.

Number of votes secured by winning candidate is ,

53 × 5000 / 100 = 53 × 50 = 2650

Thank u.

Hope this helps you.

Answer:

winning candidate secured 2650 votes

Step-by-step explanation:

let total number of votes be x

defeated candidate got 47% of total number of votes

so he got 47% of x     votes

= ( 47 / 100 ) x  votes

now, winning candidate got 100 - 47 = 53 %  of total number of votes

so he got 53 % of x votes

= ( 53 / 100 ) x  votes

defeated candidate was defeated by  300 votes

so difference between winning candidate and defeated candidate is 300

=> 53/100 x - 47/100 x = 300

6/100 x = 300

=> 6x = 300 * 100 = 30000

=> x = 30000/6 = 5000

so total number of votes is 5000

winning candidate secured 53 %  of total number of votes

= 53/100 * x

= 53/100 * 5000

= 53 * 50

= 2650

so winning candidate secured 2650 votes
