Pipe A fills at the rate of 1/6 tank per hour.

Pipe B fills at the rate of 1/8 tank per hour.

A + B fill for 2 hours then A is closed.

How much additional time will B take to fill the tank?

A = 1/6 = 4/24 per hour; B = 1/8 = 3/24 per hour

(A + B) x 2 = amount of tank filled in 2 hours with both pipes.

(4/24 + 3/24) x 2 = 7/24 x 2 = 14/24 filled at the end of 2 hours

10 /24 remain to be filled by pipe B alone.Pipe B = 3/24 per hour ; 3-1/3 hours (3:20) to finish filling with pipe B alone
