A compound microscope in its simple form, consist of two lenses mounted
coaxially (having same principal axis) on the outer ends of two hollow metallic
tubes. The lens near the object is called the objective 'O' and the other close to
the eye is called the eyepiece 'E'. Object AB to be viewed is placed at a distance
‘u' from the objective O so as to form a real inverted and magnified image A1B1
falls within the focal length of the eyepiece E. The image A1B1act as the object
for the eyepiece which essentially acts like a magnifier and forms the final
image A2B2 of the object.
