19. Two semicircular flower beds are made on the
outside of the smaller sides of a rectangular
garden 16 m by 7 m. Find the total area and
perimeter

The answer is 150.5m2 , 54m

  • Sides of rectangle are, 16m & 7m
  • Diameter of semi-circle = 7m

To find :

  • Area of Given figure
  • Perimeter of given figure

Formula used :

  • Area of rectangle = length× Breadth
  • Area of semi-circle = πr²/2
  • Perimeter of semi-circle = πr + d

Solution :

Area of given figure = Area of semi-circle{1} + Area of rectangle + Area of semi-circle{2}

 \sf \implies \: Area \:  of  \: given  \: figure  \: = \:  \dfrac{\pi  {( 3.5)}^{2}}{2}  + (16 \times 7) + \dfrac{\pi  {( 3.5)}^{2}}{2} \\  \\ \sf \implies \: Area \:  of  \: given  \: figure  \: =  \dfrac{22}{7}  \times  \dfrac{12.25}{2}  + (112) +  \dfrac{22}{7}  \times  \dfrac{12.25}{2} \\  \\  \sf \implies \: Area \:  of  \: given  \: figure  \: = \: 19.25 + 112 + 19.25 \\  \\  \sf \implies \: Area \:  of  \: given  \: figure  \: =150.5 {m}^{2}

Perimeter of given figure = (Perimeter of semi-circle{1} - diameter) + (2× long side of rectangle) + (Perimeter of semi-circle{2} - diameter)

➩ Perimeter of given figure = { ( πr + d) - d } + (2×16) + { (πr +d )- d }

➩ Perimeter of given figure = πr + (32) + πr
