There are many causes that eventually led to the revolt of 1857 -

1) The Indian soldiers did not agreed to cross the sea yet they were agreed to go from land but they were made to cross the sea.

2) They have to bite a layer of fat of cows and pigs in order to use a new weapon cartridge but this against their religion as it included Hindus and muslims.

3) They were paid less than British soldiers.

4 ) They were not put in higher ranks but British soldiers occupied higher ranks.

5) Their working condition were not good in comparison to that of British soldiers.
