1a. Princess was asked to subtract 18 from a certain number and then divide the result by 6. Instead she subtracted 6 from the number and then divided the result by 18, but she still got the correct answer. Find the number she started with. b.Simplify: i. (3v+2u)/5+(u-5v)8-3v/4 ii.(n+5) (n-5)-1(-n-25) c. Effia took 4 red, 6 green, 3blue and x number of white marbles and put them in a sack. Find: i. the number of white marbles she put in the sack if the probability of picking a red marble from the sack is 2/9. ii. the probability of not picking a blue or white marble from the sack. Please it urgent pleasssseee

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1a). (n - 18) / 6 = (n - 6) / 18

3(n - 18) = n - 6

3n - 54 = n - 6

2n = 48

n = 24

b). (i). (3v + 2u) ÷ 5 + (u - 5v) ÷ 8 - 3v ÷ 4 =

[8(3v + 2u) + 5(u - 5v) - 30v] ÷ 40

(24v + 16u + 5u - 25v - 30v) ÷ 40 =

(21u - 31v) ÷ 40

(ii). (n + 5)(n - 5) - (- n - 25) = n² - 25 + n + 25 = n² + n

1a. 24

1b. (i) (21u -31v) / 40  (ii) n²+n

1c. (i) 5 (ii) 5/9

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Let x be the number given to the princess.

(x - 18) / 6 = (x - 6) / 18

 18 (x-18) = 6 (x-6)

   18x - 324 = 6x - 36

   12x = 324 - 36

   12x = 288

    x = 288 / 12

    x = 24

b)

(i) (3v+2u)/5 +(u-5v)8 -3v/4

Taking LCM, we get:

= 8(3v +2u) +5(u-5v) -10(3v) / 40

= (24v + 16u + 5u - 25v - 30v) / 40

=  (21u -31v) / 40

ii) (n+5) (n-5)-1(-n-25) = (n² - 5²) + (n + 25) = n² + 25 + n - 25 = n²+n

c) Effia took 4 red, 6 green, 3 blue and x number of white marbles.

i) Probability of picking a red marble from the sack is 2/9.

  4 / 13+x = 2/9

  36 = 26 + 2x

  2x = 10

 x = 5.

Number of white marbles she put in the sack = 5.

ii) Probability of not picking a blue or white marble from the sack

 = probability of picking a red or green marble

 = 4 / 18 + 6 / 18

 = 10/ 18

 = 5/9
