Explanation:

The story, "On the Face of it" is about a young boy who had a burnt face. One day he left his house against the order of is mother to stay at home. He hid himself in the garden where he thought no one would be able to make fun of him.

In the garden he met an old man who also had an artificial leg but he was not ashamed of his specialty. He talked to Derry and convinced him to come to his garden and spent a normal life.

Derry came back home and made his mind that he would go to the man's garden. When he reached there, the old man was dead but he kept his promise and took care of his garden.

Man is nothing but his thoughts are; a great, fearless man is he who thinks courageous and fearless thoughts; on the other hand fearful thoughts make afraid of life.

At the beginning we find Derry having fearful, nervous, and pessimistic thoughts. He avoids meeting people. However, his meeting with Mr. Lamb works a s a catalyst to change his thoughts. He helps Derry change his outlook to life before he dies.

At the end, Derry is far different from what he was at the beginning. This difference was that of change in thoughts.
