1Q. A spherical mirror produces an image 48cm, in front it, when an object is positioned 12cm
from its pole.
1. Identity the nature of the mirror.
2.Is the image magnified or diminished ?
3. State whether the image formed is real or virtual.
4. Is the image formed erect or inverted ?
5. In the above situation u = ............... cm
v = ............... cm

1.)The image formed is in front of the mirror. So, it will be a concave mirror. Because, in a concave mirror, the image will always form in front of the mirror.
2.) m = -v/u = -48/12 = -4. So, it is a magnified image.
3.) The image is real.
4.) The image formed is inverted.
5.) u = -12 cm and v = -48 cm.

Identify the nature of mirror : concave

Is the image magnified or diminished : enlarged

State whether the image formed is real or virtual: real

Is the image formed erect or inverted: erect

In the above situation , u= ? nd v=___ ? what is u, what is v ?

Calculate focal length: with di = image distance, do = object distance

1/di + 1/du = 1/f

1/12 + 1/48 = 1/f

f = 48/5

Calculate magnification:

Magnification = di/do = 48/12 = 4 fold

If the object size is 5mm.

Calculate the size of image formed: 20 mm
