A young lady in the scene approaches the night watchman of the station and conveys how she wants to kill herself. This girl in the story has lost her mother and was taken care by her new step-mother whom her father has married. This girl wants to lead an independent life and dreams of studying further and becoming a doctor.
However, to her dismay, the dream is pulled back as she lacks resources and financial support to fulfill her dream. It is this hurdle that pulls back her spirit of life and she decides to end her life. However, the watchman explains to her how everyone has his/her own miseries and have their own problems to face and also explains killing oneself cannot be a solution or a way out.
If everyone lose courage and go on to end their life then taking such discouraging steps would become a usual thing in the society and during catastrophic situation. The watchman gives in to the situation and fails to convince her and leaves. Later, he regrets it and laments leaving her there alone.
This incident leaves a lasting impression on the watchman and he could never again look at the water tank and its depth calmly as it always disturbed him internally.
