since the British government did not want to waste their resources by bringing in people of their country in the form of clerks, they had to upgrade the traditional, Indian education system so as to produce the form of people who were Indian in color and English in taste and intellect . There was a lot of discussion in this prospect. the government ultimately decided to bring in lord  Macaulay. Macaulay strongly believed that "oriental learning was completely inferior to European learning". he, therefore, recommended the western system of education as it encouraged rational thinking and scientific research.
