Given:

x + y = 5 ... i

2x - 3y = 4 ... ii

To Find:

The value of x and y.

Solution:

In eq.i, we get

x = 5 - y ... iii

By using eq.iii in eq.ii, we get

2 ( 5 - y ) - 3y = 4

or, 10 - 2y - 3y = 4

or, -5y = 4 - 10 = -6

or, y = -6/-5 = 6/5 ... iv

By using eq.iv in eq.i, we get

x + 6/5 = 5

or, x = 5 - 6/5

or, x = 25 - 6/5 = 19/5

Answer:

The value of x and y is 6/5 and 19/5 respectively.

To Check:

19/5 + 6/5 = 5

or, 25/5 = 5

or, 5 = 5

LHS = RHS

Hence, Verified.
