Given:

14 tins contain 210 litres of oil.

To find:

How much oil is contained in (i) 1 tin, (ii) 17 tins?

Solution:

From given, we have,

14 tins contain 210 litres of oil.

14 tins = 210 litres of oil

dividing both sides by 14, we get,

⇒ 14 tins / 14 = 210 litres of oil / 14

⇒ 1 tin = 15 litres of oil

∴ 1 tin contains 15 litres of oil.

similarly, for 17 tins, we have,

as  1 tin = 15 litres of oil

multiply both sides by 17, we get,

⇒ 17 × 1 tin = 17 × 15 litres of oil

∴ 17 tins = 255 litres of oil
