(2 +  \sqrt{2} )( 2 -  \sqrt{2} ) \\   =  {(2)}^{2}  -  {( \sqrt{2} )}^{2}  \\  = 4 - 2 = 2

solved \: by \: using \:identity \:  \\ (a + b)(a - b) =  {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}   \\ where \:  \:  \:  \:  a = 2 \\ and \:  \: \:  \: b =  \sqrt{2}

Answer: 2
