The phrase "two plus two equals five" is a slogan used in propaganda, literature or other media, most notably the 1949 dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell.

Solution:

We know that:

\huge{\boxed{\sf{2 + 2 = 4}}} - - - - (1)

But here we have to prove: 2 + 2 = 5

Now,

We can say that

\implies 20 - 20 = 25 - 25

[Because both equals to 0]

\implies 20 - 20 = 25 - 25

\implies 5 × 4 - 5 × 4 = 5 × 5 - 5 × 5

\implies 4 ( 5 - 5 ) = 5 ( 5 - 5 )

Cancelling (5 - 5) from both the sides:

∴ 4 = 5

We have proved that: 4 = 5

Substituting this value in equation (1):

\implies 2 + 2 = 4 (Given)

\implies 2 + 2 = 5 [4 = 5 ]

Hence,

It is proved that: 2 + 2 = 5
