(-2-√3)(-2+√3) = (-2)² - (√3)²  [∵(a+b)(a-b) = a²-b²]

                      = 4 - 3

                      = 1

then we know that :

(a+b) (a-b) =a^2-b^2,

therefore,

(-2-√3) (-2+√3)

= (-2) ^2-(√3) ^2

= 4-3
