Step-by-step explanation:

If we subtract 2 from 6,1 from 7,10 from 18 and 12 from 22

Then the numbers become 4,6,8,10 which are in A.P

Therefore the numbers needed to be subtracted are 2,1,10 and 12 respectively

Answer:

Therefore the required number is 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Numbers are 6, 7, 18, 22

To Find :- What number must be subtracted from each of the following numbers, so that they will be in proportion?

Let the number subtracted be 'x'

So , the numbers became 6x , 7x, 18x , 22x

When they are in proportion ,

6 - x : 7 - x :: 18 - x : 22 - x

So , 6 - x = 7 - x

So , 6 - x = 7 - x 18 - x 22 - x

Cross Multiply :-

( 6 - x ) ( 22 - x ) = ( 7 - x ) ( 18 - x )

132 - 6x - 22x + x^ = 126 - 7x - 18x + x^

(^ indicates square )

-6x - 22x + 7x + 18x = 126 - 132 + x^ - x^

-3x = -6 ( +x^ and -x^ gets cancel )

x = -6 ( - and - gets cancel )

-3

x = 2
