let \: the \: unknown \: number \: be \: x \\  \\ according \: to \: the \: question \\  \\  \frac{2}{3}  \times x + 20 = x \\  \\  \implies \frac{2x}{3}  + 20 = x \\  \\  \implies \frac{(2x + 60)}{3}  = x \\  \\  \implies2x + 60 = 3x \\  \\  \implies x = 60

VERIFICATION :-

According to the question,

x - 2/3 * x = 20

Substituting value if x in this equation,

LHS=60 - 2/3 * 60 = 60 - 40 = 20 = RHS

Hence, our answer 60 is correct

let the first number be x(12)
second number 2/3x(8)
x+2/3x=20
5x/3=20
20*3/5=x
4*3=x
12=x
