Two- third of a number is 20 less than the  original number. Find the number.


SOLUTION :-

Let the original number be x.
Therefore, two-third of the number will be $\frac{2}{3} x$.

Now, It is also given that $\frac{2}{3} x$ is 20 less than the original number.
So, x - 2x/3 = 20.
Taking LCM, 
$x- \frac{2}{3} x=20 \\ \frac{3x}{3} - \frac{2x}{3} =20 \\ \frac{x}{3} =20 \\ x=60$

Therefore, the original number is 60. 

Let us verify .....

2/3 of 60 = 40.
And it is 20 less than the original.

Hence, the above answer is correct

ATQ, 
x -  2x/3 = 20.
3x/3 - 2x/3 = 20
x/3 = 20
Hence. x = 60.
