Hey,

MISTAKE IN YOUR QUESTION :-

It seems that you missed a point, whether two-third of the number is less than or more than the original number.
According to me, it is less than bcoz I remember I solved this in 8th grade.

So,
CORRECTED QUESTION :-
Two- third of a number is 20 less than the  original number. Find the number.

SOLUTION :-

Let the original number be x.
Therefore, two-third of the number will be  \frac{2}{3} x.

Now, It is also given that  \frac{2}{3} x is 20 less than the original number.
So, x- \frac{2}{3} x= 20
Taking LCM,
= \frac{3x}{3} - \frac{2x}{3} = 20 \\ = \frac{x}{3} =20 \\ x=60..

Therefore, the original number is 60.

Let us verify .....

2/3 of 60 = 40.
And it is 20 less than the original.

Hence, the above answer is correct

Hope it helps

Heya,

What #RehanAhmadXLX corrected is correct.

So, Your answer is here.

Let the original number be q.

Then the 2/3 of x = 2x/3.

ATQ,
x -  2x/3 = 20.
3x/3 - 2x/3 = 20
x/3 = 20
Hence. x = 60.

hence the original number = 60.

Two - third of 60 = 40 and it is less than 60 by 20.
Hence, It is correct
