Given:

\dfrac{2-3x-1}{4} = \dfrac{1}{7}

What To Find:

The value of x.

Solution:

By cross multiplying,

⇒ 7(2 - 3x - 1) = 4

Solve the brackets,

⇒ 14 - 21x - 7 = 4

Rearrange the terms in LHS,

⇒ 14 - 7 - 21x = 4

Subtract 7 from 14 in LHS,

⇒ 7 - 21x = 4

Take 4 to LHS and -21x to RHS,

⇒ 7 - 4 = 21x

Subtract 4 from 7 in LHS,

⇒ 3 = 21x

Take 21 to LHS,

\dfrac{3}{21} = x

Cancel 3 and 21,

\dfrac{1}{7} = x

∴ Therefore the value of x is \dfrac{1}{7}.
