To find:

  • The number of students studying in the school.

Given :

  • 2/5 of the total number of students come by car
  • 1/4 students come by bus
  • All other students come walk to school of which 1/3 walk on their own and rest escorted by their parents.
  • No.of students come by walk on their own is 224

Assuming:

  • Let the total number of students studying in the school be x

Solution:

  • No. of students who come by car

 =  \frac{2x}{5}

  • No. of students come by bus

  = \frac{x}{4}

  • No. of students who come by walk

 = x - ( \frac{2x}{5}   + \frac{x}{4} ) \\   =  > x  - ( \frac{8x + 5x}{20} ) \\  =  > x -  \frac{13x}{20}  \\  =  >  \frac{20x - 13x}{20} \\  =  >  \frac{7x}{20}

  • No. of students who come by walk on their own to school

 \frac{7x}{20}  \times  \frac{1}{3}  = 224 \\  =  >  \frac{7x}{60}  = 224 \\  =  > 7x = 224 \times 60 \\  =  > x =  \frac{224 \times 60}{7}  \\  =  > x = 32 \times 60 \\  =  > x = 1920

Hence:

  • Total noumber of students studying in the school is 1920

hope it helps....
