lat the total number of students be 'x'
2/5*x----> car
1/4*x-----> bus
(x-13x/20) 1/3---> walk on their own
(x-13x/20) 1/3=224
x-13x/20=672
7x=13440
x=1920
there are 1920 students in that school

Answer:

Let the total number of students be x

Number of students who come by car = 2x/5

Number of students who come by bus = x/4

Number of students who come by walk = x - ( 2x/5 + x/4 ) = x - (2x×4+x×5/20) = x - 13x/20 = 20x - 13x / 20 = 7x/20

Number of students who come by walk on their own = (7x/20)/3 = 224

Or, 7x/60 = 224

Or, 7x = 224 × 60

Or, x = 13440 ÷ 7

Or, x = 1920

:: 1920 students study that school.
