We have to find percentage of iodine in the compound if 2.54 g of an organic compound gave 0.94 g in the Carius estimation.

Solution : mass of organic compound = 2.54 g

mass of silver iodide = 0.94g

atomic mass of iodine = 127 g/mol

molar mass of Silver iodide = 235 g/mol

using formula,

percentage of iodine = atomic mass of iodine/molar mass of AgI × mass of AgI/mass of organic compound × 100

= 127/235 × 0.94/2.54 × 100

= 20 %

Therefore the percentage of iodine is 20%
