 = 2 \: means \: 2 {}^{1}

 = 2 {}^{9}  \div 2 {}^{1}

using \: this \: formula \:  \\ a {}^{m}  \div a {}^{n}  = a {}^{m - n}

 = 2 {}^{9 - 1}

 = 2 {}^{8}
