Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

A can do a piece of work in 40 days

Work of A in 1 day=1/40

Work of A in 8 days=8/40=1/5

1/8th part of work is done by A

Remaining work=(1−1/5)=7/8

7/8th part is done by B in 16 days

Total work will be done by B  in =16/7/8 = 128/7 = 18.2 days

Work done by B in one day=1/24

Work done by A and B together in one day will be(1/40+1/24)

(3+5/120)=8/120=1/15

A and B will take 15 days to complete the work together.
