2. A candidate takes a test and attempts all the 100 questions in it. While any
correct answer fetches 1 mark, wrong answers are penalised as follows: one-
tenth of the questions carry 1/10 negative mark each, one-fifth of the
questions carry 1/5 negative marks each and the rest of the questions carry 1/2
negative mark each. Un-attempted questions carry no marks. What is the
difference between the maximum and the minimum marks that he can score?

Answer:

140 marks

Step-by-step explanation:

First for maximum marks let's assume he answers all questions correctly .

so maximum marks is 100.

For minimum marks:

one tenth questions are having 1/10 negative mark each

one fifth are having 1/5 negative mark each

rest are having 1/2 negative mark each

so one tenth ,one fifth of 100 questions are 10 and 20 questions respectively.

so negative marks for 30 questions are -(10/10+20/5) = -5

rest questions are 70 which carry (70*.5) which is 35 negative marks.

so total negative marks are - (35+5)=-40 marks

now difference is 100-(-40)=140
