EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

A car moving at 36 km/hr speed upto 72 km/hr

time taken = 5 seconds.

1) = find it's acceleration.

according to the question,

initial speed = u = 36 km/hr

=> 36 X 5/18 = 10 m/s

final speed = v = 72 km/hr.

=> 72 X 5/18 = 20 m/s

Time = 5 seconds.

From newton first equation of

kinematics.

=> v = u + at

=> 20 = 10 + 5a

=> 10 = 5a

=> a = 2 m/s²

If the same car stops in

20 seconds, what is the retardation?

=> v = 0

=> u = 20 m/s

=> t = 20 seconds.

From newton first equation of

kinematics.

=> v = u + at

=> 0 = 20 + 20a

=> a = -1 m/s

Retardation time = -1 m/s²
