Answer:

The displacement of farmer is 10√2 m

Explanation:

Distance walked by farmer in 40s= 10m

Let the distance of 10 m taken as one round

Therefore, Rounds completed in 2min 20s(140s)=140/40=3.5 Rounds

Now after 3.5 Rounds farmer reaches from its initial point to a point where the displacement is the path which goes diagonally. So, the displacement is the distance between the initial and final point.

Since the field is of square shape,

Therefore the, displacement can be explained as.

Let the field be marked as ABCD,

Thus after 3.5 rounds, the farmer reaches to point C. Hence, Displacement is AC.

Now (AC)²= (AB)²+(BC)²{By Pythagoreas Property}

AC²=10²+10²=100+100=200

Now, AC=√200=10√2m

Hence, Displacement=10√2 m
