Step-by-step explanation:

Given A geologist examines a circular sinkhole that suddenly appeared in an urban area. To get some measurement, he uses a triangle as shown in the illustration below. If  the midline of the triangle he formed measures 22.5  m, what is the diameter and the  area covered by the sinkhole? Use π = 3.14      22.5 m

  • So there is a sink hole in an urban area which is circular in shape.
  • So the midline of the triangle formed is the radius and so r = 22.5 m
  • So we have diameter = 2 radius
  •                                      = 2 x 22.5 m
  •                                  d = 45 m
  • Now Area of the circle = πr^2
  •                                         = 3.14 x (22.5)^2
  •                                        = 3.14 x 22.5 x 22.5
  •                                         = 3.14 x 506.25
  •                             Area = 1589.625 sq m
