A group of 1200 consist of soldiers and captains

Let the number of soldiers be x.

So the number of captains is 1200 - x

For every 15 soldiers , there is one captain.

For 15 soldiers among x there are one captain 1200 - x

So:

x = 15(1200 - x)

==>  x = 18000 - 15 x

==> 16 x = 18000

==>x =1125

Thus there were 1125 soldiers and 1200 - 1125

==> 75 captains

There are 75 captains among 1200 people

Hope it helps you
