Explanation:

The compass points towards the north pole as the field lines must line up. With magnets, it is not the case that like charges repel and unlike charges attract. It just appears this way as if you were to put two like charges together outside the solenoid the field lines would be going in opposite directions so would repel. I hope this helps.
