A passenger takes 2 minutes standing on a
moving escalator to reach the top. If escalator is
stationary he takes 3 minutes to walk up. Time
taken to reach the top when he walk up on moving
escalator

Answer: 1.2 minutes

Explanation:

Let the distance traveled in both the cases be “d”.

Case 1: when the passenger is standing on a moving escalator

Time take = 2 minutes

So, the velocity of escalator w.r.t the ground = d/t = d/2 ….. (i)

Case 2: when the passenger is walking on a stationary escalator

Time taken = 3 minutes

So, the velocity of the passenger w.r.t the escalator = d/3 …… (ii)

Case 3:  when the passenger is walking on a moving escalator

Let the time taken by the passenger to reach the top when he is walking upon the moving escalator be “t”.

Here,

The velocity of passenger w.r.t the ground, “d/t”

= [velocity of escalator w.r.t the ground] + [the velocity of the passenger w.r.t the escalator]

Substituting the values from (i) & (ii)

= d/2 + d/3

= d[(2+3)/6]

= 5d/6

d/t = 5d/6

t = 6/5 = 1.2 minutes

Thus, the passenger takes 1.2 minutes to reach the top by walking upon the moving escalator.

Answer:

1.2 is ans

Explanation:

VGE =Vg-Ve

y/Tge=y/Tg-y/Te

1/T =1/3+1/2

hence

T =6/5

=1.2
