2 A rectangular coil of length 0.5m and breadth 0.4m has resistance 5ohm. The coil is placed in a magnetic field of induction 0.05 T and its direction is perpendicular to the plane of the coil. If the magnetic induction is uniformly reduced to zero in 5 milliseconds, find the emf and current induced in the coil.

Given : Length of rectangular coil = 0.5 m, breadth = 0.4 m, resistance = 5 ohm, magnetic field = 0.05 T, time = 5 milliseconds

To find : The emf and current induced in the coil.

Solution : We know that, emf is given as

e =  ∆ Φ/∆t

• ∆Φ = ∆B.A / ∆t

A = 0.5×0.4  \: m {}^{2}

e = 0.05×0.5×0.4×1000 / 5

= 5×0.4

e = 2 volt

• Now for current, we know that

i = e \div r

• Where r = resistance of coil and e = emf induced in the coil.

i = 2 / 5

i = 0.4 A

Hence, fhe emf and current induced in the coil is 2 volt and 0.4 A respectively
