2. A rectangular solid (5.0cm X 4.0cm X 8.0cm) is made of gold and has a density of 14.9g/cm3. Find its mass.
3. A rock is dropped in a graduated cylinder that has 30.0 mL of water in it. The final reading of water and rock in the cylinder is 38.4 mL. The rock’s mass is 14.3g. What is the rock’s density?
4. Which has the larger density, oil or water? How do you know?

2. volume = 5×4×8 = 160cm³
density = 14.9g/cm³
mass = density × volume
= 14.9 × 160 = 2384g
3. volume of rock = 38.4-30 = 8.4ml
1 ml = 1cm³
=> volume of rock = 8.4cm³
mass = 14.3g
density = mass/volume = 14.3/8.4
= 1.7 g/cm³ (approximately).
4. water has higher density
since oil floats on water but water not on oil
