To obtain resonance on the moon,the value of M should be 6kg.

Let the resonance frequency of the sonometer wire be 'f'.

f = (1/2l) √(t/μ)

It is further expressed as,

f = (1/2l) √(Mg/μ)

'M' is the suspended mass and 'g' is the acceleration due to gravity on earth.

Given that on moon, acc. due to gravity is (1/6) that on earth.

So, g' = g/6

Here, the resonance frequency 'f' is:

f' = (1/2l) √(mg'/μ)

  = (1/2l) √(mg/6μ)

For, f' to be equal to f, m must be equal to 6M.

And, M = 1kg, so 6M =6kg.
