a) The kinetic theory of matter states that all matter is made up of small particles that are in random motion and that have space between them. this means that no matter what phase Matter is in , it is made of separate , moving particles.

b) Solid Matter is composed of tightly packed particle. A solid will retain it's shape , the particles are not free to move around. Liquid matter is made of more loosely packed particles. it will take the shape of it's container.
