Let f(x) = (x4 – 2x3 + 3x2 – ax + b)

∴ From the given information,

f(1) = 14 – 2(1)3 + 3(1)2 – a (1 ) + b = 5

⇒ 1 – 2 + 3 – a + b = 5

⇒ 2 – a + b = 5 ….(i)

And,

f(-1) = (-1)4 – 2(-1)3 + 3(-1)2 – a(-1) + b = 19

⇒ 1 + 2 + 3 + a + b = 19

⇒ 6 + a + b = 19 ….(ii)

Adding (i) and (ii), we get

⇒ 8 + 2b = 24

⇒ 2b = 24 – 8 = 16

⇒ b =  162

Substituting the value of b = 8 in (i), we get

2 – a + 8 = 5

⇒ -a + 10 = 5

⇒ -a = -10 + 5

⇒ -a = -5

⇒ a = 5

∴ a = 5 and b = 8

f(x) = x4 – 2x3 + 3x2 – ax + b

= x4 – 2x3 + 3x2 – 5x + 8

∴ f(2) = (2)4 – 2(2)3 + 3(2)2 – 5(2) + 8

= 16 – 16 + 12 – 10 + 8

= 20 – 10 = 10

∴ The required remainder is 10.
