If we write the number as xy and assume base 10, then we know that:

10x+y = 3 (x + y). Where x and y are single-digit numbers.

If we simplify that, we get:

10x + y = 3x + 3y

7x = 2y

Because 2y will always be an even number, then x has to be even as well. For a 2 digit number, x can’t be zero. This means x can only be 2, 4, 6, or 8. With only 4 possible values, we can simply try them:

x-y

2-7

4–14

6–21

8–28

Only the first pair (2–7) has single digit numbers for x and y so it is the only valid solution(*) and your number is 27.

(*) 0–0 also works but we don’t normally write numbers that way.

Given :

Option 2 (27) is correct
