Given : Adjacent sides of a rectangle are 7 cm and 24 cm.

  • Length = 24 cm.
  • Breadth = 7 cm.

To Find :

  • The diagonal of the rectangle.

Solution :

Reference of fiq.

\setlength{\unitlength}{1cm}\begin{picture}(0,0)\thicklines\multiput(0,0)(5,0){2}{\line(0,1){3}}\multiput(0,0)(0,3){2}{\line(1,0){5}}\put(0.03,2.74){\framebox(0.25,0.25)}\put(4.74,0.01){\framebox(0.25,0.25)}\put(2,-0.7){\sf\large 24 cm}\put(-0.5,-0.4){\bf A}\put(-0.5,3.2){\bf D}\put(5.3,-0.4){\bf B}\put(5.3,3.2){\bf C}\qbezier(0,0)(0,0)(5,3)\put(5.5,1.5){\sf\large 7 cm}\end{picture}

Taking ∆ ABC

We have,

  • AB (base) = 24 cm.
  • BC (perpendicular) = 7 cm.
  • CA (hypotenuse) = ?

Using Pythagoras Theorem : H²=P²+B² .

AC² = BC² + AB²

⟹ AC² = 7² + 24²

⟹ AC² = 49 + 576

⟹ AC² = 625

⟹ AC = √625

⟹ AC = 25cm.

  • Hence, the value of diagonal is 25cm
