In North America, there are two kinds of private schools.
The first is about exclusivity - quality of education, reputation, smaller class size, more experienced teachers, “better” teachers (because they are not protected by a union), and tradition. These schools are all about their reputation, and while the elite schools will have their students get into the Ivy League anyway (“legacy” admissions), they still need to produce high-quality graduates.
The second type are about a different kind of exclusivity - segregation by religious belief. This is not to say that they can’t also provide a good education, but plenty of these schools are, first and foremost, about their belief system.
