Selucus Nicator, a general of Alexander, wanted to recover the areas conquered by Alexander in India. He was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya and made to sign a peace treaty. Selucus had to give Chandragupta Maurya Eastern Afghanistan, Baluchistan and areas beyond river Indus. He also give his daughter in marry to Chandragupta. In return Selucus obtain 500 elephants. An ambassador of Selucus called Megasthenes, stayed in the court of Chandragupta Maurya for many years and also wrote a book named Indika.
