2 balls have masses of 50gm and 100gm respectively and they are moving along the same line in the same direction with velocities of 3m/sec and 1.5m/sec respectively. They collide with each other and after collision, the 1st ball moves with a velocity of 2.5m/sec. Calculate the velocity of the other ball after collision.

Answer: 1.75m/s

Explanation:let u1 and u2 are velocity of balls before collision..Let after collision velocity of two balls are v1 and v2 .

From linear momentum conservation we get

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

m1 =50gm,u1=3m/s , v1=2.5m/s

Me=100gm, u2=1.5m/s, be=??

50×3+100×1.5=50×2.5+100×v2

150+150=125+100v2

300=125+100v2

175=100v2

V2 =175/100

V2 = 1.75

Hence velocity of 2nd particle after collision is 1.75m/s
