In my opinion, Medieval period was marked with two kind of music: Sacred music and Secular music.

Renaissance period led to invention of Music Printing which brought revolutionary help in the field towards concept improvisation.  

Baroque period brought in Harmony, Rhythm and Duration altogether in tonality.

The performance practice is in consonance with music and arts.

Medieval period marked with Sacred Music showed the following features:

  1. accompanied by instruments
  2. exclusion of women
  3. elevation of unison singing
  4. formation of choir

Medieval period marked with Secular Music showed the following features:

  2. developed literary and musical genres
  3. mostly travelling performers, in order to earn their living
