(Jerome, George, and Harris decided to take a trip down the Ganges. Since Montomorency could not decide on his own, they took him along. They decided to commence their journey from Rishikesh and then to sail thorough the cities holy of Haridwar and Varanasi. As they began their journey from Rishikesh they were wonderstruck with the scenic beauty of the place.)
Jerome: I must say this place is exceptionally beautiful. The peace, beauty, and grandeur like this I have not seen anywhere!
George: Undoubtedly, this is a great place. I like it very much!
Harris: I don’t agree with either of you! I see no difference between the Thames and the Ganges. Both have water flowing in it! Except for the tall mountains and the copious flow of water, there is no difference! I feel rather scared here! The Thames doesn’t have such scary rapids as this river has! Even Montomorency is on my side. See, how scared he is sitting cowed under in the prow!
George: Who is that man sitting in full lotus posture, with closed eyes? What is he doing here? He seems to be totally unaware of the world around!
Jerome: He is a Rishi. Rishi is a man who has consecrated himself to the holy cause of self-realization. He is meditating on God. You will find hundreds of men and women meditating; and a few of them are said to be meditating for months, years!
Harris: Gosh! How is it possible to meditate for months or years at a stretch without eating, drinking, and performing other bodily functions?
Jerome: It is possible! While meditating these great men and women develop divine powers that sustain their bodies extraordinarily!
George: Hey look, now we are entering the holy city of Haridwar.
Harris: I see so much of crowd of people! Who are they?
Jerome: Hey, they are the Hindu devotees. Haridwar is a religiously sacred place for the Hindus; thousands of devotes from all across come here to take a dip at Har Ki Pauri!
George: I must say the place is well looked after. I am shocked at the squalor lying along the banks of the river!
Harris: Ugh! See there, a stream of dirty water pouring into the pure water of the river! I think it is the sewage water of the city!
Jerome: You are right! The river is facing mighty pollution problem as it passes through cities. Though, the Central and state Governments have spent billions of dollars to keep the river pollution free, yet the actions have been meagerly successful!
George: I think we must stop our journey here as from this point onwards the river is no better than a huge sewage channel!
