2 blocks made of different metals identical in shape and size are acting upon by equal force which cause them to slide on a horizontal surface

the acceleration of the second block is found to be 5 times that of the first box what is the ratio of the mass of the second block to the first.

Answer:

1:5

Explanation:

Resultant force = F

For the first block let the

  • Mass = M
  • Acceleration = A

⟹F = MA ..(1)

For the second block let the -

  • Mass = m
  • Acceleration = a

⟹F = ma ..(3)

________________________________

MA/ma = 1 ( from 1 and 2)

⟹m/M = A/a ...(3)

given that a is 5 times A.

⟹a = 5(A)

⟹A/a = 1/5 ... (4)

m/M = 1:5 ( from 3 and 4)

Ratio of mass of the second block to the first block is 1:5
