2 blocks made up of different metals are identical in shape and size are acted upon by equal forces which cause them to slide on a horizontal surface. the acceleration of the second block is found to be 5 times that of the first, what is the ratio of the mass of the 2nd to the 1st.

Answer:

Explanation:

Given :-

Acceleration of the 1st block, a₁/Acceleration of the 2nd block, a₂ = 1/5

Force, F = F Same on both the blocks)

To Calculate :-

m₂/m₁ = ??

Formula to be used :-

F = ma

Now, according to the given condition,

F = m₁a₁ and F = m₂a₂

a₁ = F/m₁ and a₂ = F/m₂

But, a₁/a₂ = 1/5

F/m₁/F/m₂ = 1/5

or, m₂/m₁ = 1/5

Hence, the ratio of the mass of the second block to the first block is 1 : 5.
