Given : 2 box plots.  The number line goes from 175 to 450.

For resort A, the whiskers range from 175 to 375, and the box ranges from 250 to 300. A line divides the box at 375.

For Resort B, the whiskers range from 200 to 400, and the box ranges from 300 to 375. A line divides the box at 325.

To Find : Which statement is true about the box plots?

Resort A’s range is much greater than that of Resort B.

Resort B’s range is much greater than that of Resort A.

Both resorts have about the same range.

The range is not shown on the box plot.

Solution:

For resort A, the whiskers range from 175 to 375,  => Range = 375 - 175  = 200

the box ranges from 250 to 300  =>  IQR = 300 - 250 = 50

line divides the box at 275  => Median = 275

For resort B, the whiskers range from 200 to 400,  => Range = 400 - 200  = 200

the box ranges from 300 to 375  =>  IQR = 375 - 300 = 75

line divides the box at 325  => Median = 325

Both resorts have  the same range 200
