2. By passing electric current through molten sodium
chloride, Na and Cl, are obtained as follows:
2NaCl electric current → 2Na + Cl,
But Na and Cl2 can also combine to form sodium
chloride. The first reaction is a decomposition reaction
and the second reaction is a combination reaction.
Is this statement true? Justify.

Answer: This statement is absolutely true.

Explaination-

The first reaction -

⇒2NaCl +electric current → 2Na + Cl₂

In decomposition reaction, a compound is get broken down into two or more simpler compounds.

This is a thermal decomposition reaction beacuse here NaCl is broken down into Na and Cl due to electricity.

The second reaction-

⇒2Na + Cl₂ → 2NaCl

In combination reaction, two or more compound is added to form a single complex compound.

This is a combination or addition reaction because here Na and Cl is added to form single compound NaCl.

Answer:

the statement is true

Explanation:

as combination reaction when reversed becomes decomposition reaction

Combination reaction : A + B=AB

Decomposition reaction :AB=A+B
